Acupuncture & Chinese Medicine FAQ
Discover How Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Can Help Restore Balance, Relieve Pain and Improve Overall Health
What Is Acupuncture?
Acupuncture is one of the oldest and most widely used medical therapies in the world, originating in China more than 2,000 years ago. It involves stimulating specific anatomical points on the body to activate your body’s natural healing response.
Modern acupuncture uses ultra-fine, sterile needles that are gently inserted at precise points along energy pathways (meridians). These points may also be stimulated with gentle electrical current (electro-acupuncture) to enhance results.
American acupuncture draws on medical traditions from China, Japan, Korea, and other Asian countries. Today, it’s backed by growing scientific research showing acupuncture can help with pain relief, stress reduction, hormonal balance, immune health, and neurological recovery.

How Does Acupuncture Work?
Scientific research has shown that acupuncture points exhibit unique bioelectric properties. When these points are stimulated, they create measurable physiological changes that help the body heal, including:
- Releasing natural endorphins (your body’s painkillers)
- Regulating blood pressure and circulation
- Enhancing immune and endocrine system activity
- Balancing the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems
- Promoting deep relaxation and homeostasis
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture restores the flow of Qi (pronounced “chee”), the body’s vital life energy that moves through meridians (channels) connecting the organs and tissues.
“There is no pain if there is free flow; if there is pain, there is no free flow.”
When Qi becomes blocked—due to stress, trauma, diet, or environmental factors—pain and illness can arise. Acupuncture helps release blockages and restore balance, allowing the body to heal naturally.
What Will I Feel During Treatment? Does Acupuncture Hurt?
Acupuncture is generally painless and deeply relaxing.
Most patients feel only a slight pinch upon insertion, followed by sensations such as:
- Tingling or warmth
- Gentle heaviness or pressure
- Subtle electrical sensations traveling along the meridian
Many patients fall asleep during treatment or leave feeling calm and energized. Any post-treatment soreness is mild and short-lived, and there are no long-term negative side effects.
Are the Needles Sterile and Safe?
Absolutely.
All acupuncture needles are pre-sterilized, single-use, non-toxic, and disposable.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved acupuncture needles for licensed practitioners in 1996, classifying them as safe and effective medical devices when used properly.
Acupuncture has an outstanding safety record — among the best of all healthcare professions.
How Long Does a Treatment Last?
Individual acupuncture sessions typically last 30 to 60 minutes, depending on your condition and treatment goals.

How Are Holistic Vision & Eye Health Treatments Performed?
Here’s what to expect:
- Day 1-4:
- Vision field scan & visual acuity test first day
- 8 acupuncture treatments over four days (2 per day with an hour between each one)
- Points primarily on the hands, feet, and forehead — no needles in the eyes
- Day 5:
- Repeat vision testing to measure results
- Approximately 80% of patients show measurable improvement
- Continuation:
- If vision improves, a second phase continues for six additional days (total 20 treatments in 10 days)
- Maintenance sessions are recommended yearly to sustain visual gains
While acupuncture cannot “cure” degenerative eye disease, it can often slow progression, enhance remaining vision, and improve quality of life.
